Study NSW, Ovolo Hotel and Academy of Entrepreneurs tips for job interview
In collaboration with Study NSW, Academy of Entrepreneurs have been building and executing a series of employability events to help international students achieve their dream job.
This time, we had the opportunity to work with Ovolo Hotels.
The day began with an incredible presentation from the Culture and Brand Experience Manager, Amanda Cottome, who spoke of the vision of the company, the culture, and most importantly where to begin in order to get a job at the hotel and the importance of caring for people. All about fun, engagement, and development.
Amanda also shared a very inspiring company story, including that of the founder of Ovolo Hotels.
She emphasized the great potential in the hospitality environment, there is much to learn in a hospitality environment, even on a casual part-time or full-time basis. You have so many learning opportunities and you learn transferable skills. Such as communication skills and stepping up, setting goals, giving feedback, validation methods and various management styles. Then of course when you get into management where there’s a ton you can learn about both technical and soft skills.
Technically: about finance, how to manage payroll, managing safety on the ground, and managing customer experiences.
One of the key points Amanda emphasized to the students on the day was:
“Don’t think of the job that you pick up as something just to pay. You’ve started your career anywhere, then it’s up to you what you get out of it.”
Over 50+ participants were then treated to a hotel tour, including the cafe, the rooms, private rooms as well as loft suites, each with its own unique art and design work.
Inspired by the heritage and modern luxury, indulge in the rich history of the Woolloomooloo wharf complemented by contemporary designs and tech-savvy inclusions.
Students gained a new perspective on working at a hotel. In the hospitality industry, many were inspired by the process of interview success, as well as the array of different job opportunities available.
