10 reasons why exercising will help you become a better entrepreneur

We all know that fitness is important for our health, but did you know it can also be good for your business?

Here are 10 ways physical activity can improve the health of your business:

  1. Boost your creativity

Exercise not only tones muscles, but improves brainpower. Research by Montreal Heart Institute showed aerobic exercise increased cognitive function; including learning, thinking, reasoning, remembering, problem-solving, decision making, and attention.

That’s why I always jog in the mornings, it helps me brainstorm and get creative with new ideas.

  1. Reduce stress.

Physical activity increases the production of endorphins that give you a natural high and reduces stress hormones. It helps you to achieve a calmer mindset.

When we are stressed, we are unable think clearly and make rational business decisions.

  1. Boost your confidence.

Having a great workout makes you feel more accomplished with everything that you do. When we are building /running a business we have challenges every day. By doing your daily workout you will gain the confidence you need to achieve larger goals in your business life.

  1. Overcome business challenges.

Fitness challenges are like business targets. By training for something like a marathon, it will help you understand the importance of goal-setting and determination. It will make you become more centered, decisive and aggressively pursue your goals.

Remove the word “can’t” from your vocabulary. Make sure you “tick” the workout box from your daily challenges.

  1. Improve your energy.

Grab your bulletproof coffee, a light snack and start your workout. Exercising everyday helps you sleep better, and if you sleep better you’ll have more energy during the day.

One of my fav book in 2018 was “Sleep Revolution” by Arianna Huffington

  1. Build your network.

Fitness can help you network with prospective clients or strengthen existing business relationships. I have met over 50% of our business partners and speakers through fitness activities. I also love going for runs with clients and vendors. It helps build and strengthen relationships.

It’s a genuine way to truly connect. It allows us to deeply communicate with others in a very different way and consequently learn more about each other that would normally be possible in an office.

  1. Stop being a control freak

When you hire a trainer, join a gym or yoga class you are acquiescing to someone else, accepting that you’re going to let them direct you. Team sports can also, teach control-freak entrepreneurs about the importance of entrusting others with important tasks, proving they don’t have to do it all on their own to have a successful business.

As a business owner, you don’t have to do it all. Trust your team, this will boost their confidence and make them perform better. It will also give you free time to work on new projects.

  1. Eat healthier

The more you exercise, the better you will want to perform. So eating healthier and smaller portions throughout the day will help you boost your performance both at the gym/yoga studio and your business achievements.

  1. Become a better learner

A big part of life as a startup’s founder is the ability to process and digest information quickly.

Optimizing the health of our hippocampus, a brain region responsible for memory and learning, makes this easier. Studies have found that aerobic fuels the growth of new neurons.

So get out there for a run, cycle, power-walk or swim.

  1. Reduce Anxiety

Don’t forget to stretch and meditate.

Every entrepreneur knows that there can be dark moments along the road. There’s despair when things look hopeless, and daily anxiety about making payroll, looming expenses and finishing projects on time etc.

Reduce their anxiety and delay burnout with regular stretching & meditation. For example; yoga reduces levels of cortisol, well-known as the stress hormone, which allows us to handle stressful situations more mindfully and ward off feelings of anxiety. It also boosts other processes that clean up after the wreckage of oxidative stress, known to affect both the body and the mind.

My fav app at the moment is Insight Timer

And as yoga studios are currently closed, I have been doing daily yoga classes with Boho Beautiful.

Being an entrepreneur is mentally and physically demanding. Most successful leaders are not only physically fit but also adhere to a routine that allows them to remain in good physical health. Good leaders often don’t smoke and don’t drink in excess either.
